SAUNA CONSTRUCTION

Sauna laths and profile boards for sauna construction are considered traditional products in particular in Scandinavia and Russia. We have successfully been importing these products from Cameroon, the Ivory Coast and Ghana, their countries of origin, for decades.

Description

Botanical name: Triplochiton scleroxylon, Antiaris spp., Hannoa klaineana
Characteristics/features: Timber used for saunas is exposed to a number of influences. Not only does it have to be resistant to the extreme temperature and humidity changes, but it also needs a low density, as to avoid overheating. Yet it still requires a clean surface free of splints or resin and should provide minimal thermal distortion. Abachi (Triplochiton scleroxylon), Samba (also known as Wawa or Ayous), Ako (Antiaris spp.) as well as Hotrohotro (Hannoa klaineana) have proven themselves to be proficient materials for these tasks. Most of the time, they are planed and polished in their countries of origin (Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Cameroon). The woods are available in the common dimensions used for sauna laths and profile panels.
